With Apple's Claris, digital transformation goes to school
Just as digital transformation accelerated in the enterprise, the implementation and deployment of tech in the education sector has also accelerated, prompting Apple's Claris subsidiary to introduce its own powerful student information system (SIS), which it calls Claris Connect for Apple School Manager. "Schools across the U.S. constantly face challenges around getting the most meaningful information out of the volumes of data gathered and processed each day--- which we are solving with Claris Connect for Apple School Manager," Brad Freitag, CEO at Claris, said in a statement. The product has been designed to help education establishments integrate SIS data with Apple School Manager, through which it can flow across additional tuition, support and learning systems. Claris Connect includes support for SIS systems from Aeries, Follet Aspen, and Skyward. The idea behind this integration is that administrators, teachers, students, and parents can more easily access Apple's education-focused services, apps, and technology.

Apple says the iPhone doesn't listen to your conversations
Last month, members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee fired off a letter to Apple following reports that phones and other devices, such as smart speakers, can listen in on conversations. Now, the tech giant has sent the Representatives its response: iPhones, it says, don't listen to people's conversations and don't share people's spoken words with third-parties. In what could be interpreted as a dig at its staunchest competitors, Cupertino explains in the letter (courtesy of CNET) that the customer is not its product and that its business model "does not depend on collecting vast amounts of personally identifiable information to enrich targeted profiles marketed to advertisers." In the original letter the lawmakers sent, they specifically noted reports that third-party apps could access the data devices supposedly collect while listening for their "trigger words," such as "Hey, Siri, "OK Google" and "Hey, Alexa." During Facebook's congressional hearing back in April, Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) even asked Mark Zuckerberg whether the social network listens in on people through their phone mics in order to serve relevant ads.
6 ways Siri is better than Alexa and Google Assistant
If digital assistants ate lunch together, Alexa and Google Assistant would be at the cool kids' table. Everyone from Spotify to Starbucks to Lyft to TED Talks wants to sit with them. Apple's Siri, on the other hand, would probably sit off by itself, largely overshadowed by the other digital assistants in features and functionality. Sure, it doesn't work with nearly as many third-party services as Alexa and Google Assistant, although it does check some of the major boxes like Lyft, Uber, Fandango, Square Cash, WhatsApp, and Venmo. Plus, Siri has some key advantages that make using it a better experience overall.

Opinion: Siri should be interconnected between devices before an SDK is released
When Siri originally launched on the iPhone a little over four years ago, we postulated that it would be a world-changing event. A personal assistant in our pockets that could handle real-world requests felt like the future. When it launched onto the Apple Watch, it was described as potentially being the quickest and most fun way to interact with the wearable. Then when it came to the Apple TV, it became the fastest way to disseminate the content you want to watch across multiple apps. Siri has found its way onto nearly every hero Apple product today, and yet on every device it feels as though it has its own definitive personality.
